SMS Consent Policy
Overview
RentSettle, operated by 1001469639 Ontario Inc., sends SMS messages to tenants on behalf of property management companies for rent payment reminders and account notifications. This policy explains how we collect consent and what tenants can expect.
How Consent is Collected
We use a text-based opt-in process. Before any SMS communications are sent, tenants must provide explicit consent via SMS reply.
Step 1: Initial Invitation
When a property manager enrolls a tenant, the tenant receives a single introductory message:
“Hi [First Name], [Property Manager Name] has invited you to receive rent payment reminders via text message. Reply YES to opt in. Reply STOP to decline. Msg & data rates may apply.”
Step 2: Tenant Confirms
- If the tenant replies YES, they are enrolled and will receive messages going forward.
- If the tenant replies STOP or does not respond, they will not receive any further messages.
No messages are sent unless the tenant explicitly replies YES.
Types of Messages
Once enrolled, tenants may receive the following types of messages:
- Payment Reminders: Notifications before rent is due
- Past Due Notices: Alerts when rent is overdue
- Balance Updates: Current amount owed
- Payment Confirmations: Confirmation when a payment is received
- Payment Plan Updates: Information about agreed payment arrangements
Message Frequency
Tenants can expect to receive approximately 2-8 messages per month, depending on their account status and payment activity. Tenants with on-time payments will receive fewer messages.
Opt-Out Instructions
Tenants can opt out at any time by replying STOP to any message. Upon opting out, tenants will receive a final confirmation:
“You have been unsubscribed and will no longer receive messages from [Property Manager Name] via RentSettle. Reply YES to re-subscribe.”
After opting out, no further messages will be sent unless the tenant re-subscribes.
Help & Support
Tenants can reply HELP at any time to receive assistance. They will receive:
“RentSettle SMS Support: For questions about your rent or account, contact your property manager directly. For SMS issues, email support@rentsettle.com. Reply STOP to unsubscribe.”
Cost
RentSettle does not charge tenants for SMS messages. However, standard message and data rates from your mobile carrier may apply.
Privacy
Tenant phone numbers are used solely for rent-related communications on behalf of the property manager. We do not sell, share, or use phone numbers for marketing purposes. For full details, see our Privacy Policy.
